The Client

Mitsubishi Electric is a globally renowned leader in the manufacturing and sale of electrical and electronic products and systems.

Interior Options was commissioned to design an inviting, collaborative workspace that would entice employees back to the office. The space needed to be visually appealing, sustainable, and meet a variety of practical requirements.

The Brief

The goal was to create a welcoming, collaborative office environment to encourage staff to return after an extended period of remote work. The client desired a design that provided a significant “wow” factor while addressing a range of practical needs sustainably. Every detail required meticulous planning to meet a tight 30-day deadline.

Design Philosophy

Comment from Katie Hardy, Interior Options Head Designer

“I wanted the office design to strongly emphasise employee wellbeing, with dedicated spaces for socialising and relaxation and sit-stand desks furnishing further choice in their work surroundings. Retaining a strong focus on sustainability throughout the design was crucial, as was getting the furniture choice just right.

Sustainable Office Design

Sustainability was at the heart of the design. Biophilic elements such as moss walls and living planters were integrated into the theme, featuring prominently at the entrance, reception area, and within meeting spaces. These elements, including the Relic Cloud, created a welcoming atmosphere and boosted cognitive function, physical health, and psychological well-being.

Eco-friendly furnishing solutions were introduced, including carpets made from 83% recycled content and fabrics for reupholstered furniture made from plant fibers and wool, making them completely compostable. Existing materials and furniture that could be repurposed were upcycled. Interior Options meticulously vetted all recycled items to ensure they met current standards. This approach not only met the sustainable design brief by reducing waste and carbon emissions but also resulted in a unique and visually stunning end product.

A selection of Frovi products was chosen for their alignment with the creative vision and client aspirations, including the Relic Cloud, Relic Bench and Stool, Ilk, Margin, Wish and the Peak Light.
