Versatile Modular Office Seating Ideas for Small Spaces

We all dream of working in vast, expansive office spaces, with high ceilings, open layouts, and acres of natural light flooding through floor-to-ceiling windows. The reality, however, is often a little different—especially if you’re fighting for space in a crowded city centre or are limited by a building’s architecture. But this doesn’t mean to say a free-flowing layout is unachievable.

With smart design choices and the right furniture, even the most compact office can feel open and organised. Step forward: modular office seating. Whether you’re designing a new office layout or looking to maximise flexibility, we’re exploring how commercial modular seating provides the answer.
Why Modular Seating is Perfect for Small Office Spaces
Small office environments tend to require one characteristic more than any other, and that’s versatility. With space at a premium, every piece of furniture needs to work harder—adapting to different needs, maximising efficiency, and maintaining a stylish, professional look.

Building on the advantages of traditional fixed furniture, modular seating takes these strengths further by offering:

Even greater flexibility – Easily rearrange and reconfigure to suit different office layouts.
Maximised space efficiency – Compact designs allow for optimal use of limited areas.
Cohesive aesthetic appeal – Sleek, contemporary designs that fit together can further enhance the visual appeal of a workspace.

Modular Seating Ideas for Compact Offices
If you’re working with limited space, consider these modular seating ideas to maximise functionality:
Bench-Style Seating for Shared Workspaces
Bench-style modular office seating offers a space-saving alternative to individual chairs. These streamlined options encourage collaboration while maintaining an open and airy feel in small offices. They are particularly effective for breakout areas and co-working spaces where flexibility is key.

Modular seating can also be paired with high tables or low-profile desks to create multi-functional workspaces that support both focused work and casual discussion.
Multi-Functional Seating with Storage
Some modular soft seating options include built-in storage compartments, reducing the need for extra furniture. This is ideal for keeping office essentials and personal belongings organised while optimising space. Storage-integrated seating also minimises clutter, creating a clean and professional environment.
Booth Seating for Privacy
For offices that need quiet spaces without dedicated rooms, booth-style modular seating offers a semi-private environment that reduces noise distractions, all without requiring fixed walls or partitions. Seating with high backs or an enclosed design can create an effective workspace, even in open-plan layouts.

Many booth seating designs incorporate sound-absorbing materials to further enhance privacy and comfort. One example is our Jig Cave, which can also be equipped with power and media packs for a comprehensive and inviting workspace. The Sail Booth is another strong contender worthy of consideration thanks to its ergonomic design and exceptional comfort levels.

Innovative Furniture Design with the Relic Collection

Adaptable, customisable, simple. These are the three words that David King – our Design Director at Frovi – put to us when asked to describe his long-term project: the Relic collection.

Relic Cloud: The Original Designers for this Style of Collaboration table

With human interaction and experience at the heart of its design, we wanted Relic Cloud to become a destination, encouraging people to come together; sharing, learning and enjoying the company of others.

Puffa Launching at CDW’24

We are delighted to announce that we will be launching our highly anticipated Puffa chair at this years Clerkenwell Design Week, so if you’re planning to be in London that week, our Sycamore Street showroom is a must.

This year we are transforming upstairs into an exhibition space that fully communicates the design process of Puffa, providing guests with a raw, honest, interesting, and playful insight into its creation, cultural references, and influences leaving customers feeling informed and inspired. Our in-house design team will be available throughout the three days providing interesting and meaningful insights into the inspirations, cultural references, and processes that helped shape and inform Puffa’s creation.

As guests arrive, they will find themselves at the start of the journey. Eyes will be drawn to the distance with early prototypes, original hand drawings, concepts, ideas, and renderings on display in an artistic and engaging way – helping communicate the rigorous design process and creative journey our design team went on during Puffa’s 2-year creation. Guests are encouraged through our showroom to discover how the influences from fashion, culture, and their own experiences  helped inspire our in-house design team – not only for Puffa’s shape and form but also its name, the materials we used, and the designs they created. Early ‘off-the-wall’ concepts and ideas will be on display and guests are encouraged to interact and engage with including jackets, prototypes, 3D renders, materials, and samples, as well as discussing with in-house designers David King and Matthew Coules the design journey they went on that helped shape and inform Puffa design and creation.

Meaningful and thought-provoking settings will also be created allowing guests to take a moment from the fast-paced three days to experience the role Puffa can play in commercial environments by fully utilising Puffa’s flexible hood, soft curves and organic inflated form. Alternatively guests can choose to put their feet up on the additional footstool for absolute comfort and relaxation.

We look forward to welcoming guests to 5 Sycamore Street – conveniently situated within a five  minutes’ walk of Barbican, Farringdon, and Old Street tube stations and positioned in the bustling heart of Clerkenwell.

Introducing Puffa

Puffa. A Chair like no other.

Launching at Clerkenwell Design Week, Puffa is our brand new statement piece within our soft seating category that is available with a range of options and accessories.

A fully upholstered armchair with an extremely relaxed sit and contemporary styling, it has an organic, inflated form and contours which are highlighted with chunky piping and features a large, flexible quilted hood which takes inspiration from puffa jackets, and the common trend of wrapping ourselves in quilted textiles for comfort and warmth.

Inspiration
Puffa was born from an idea of fusing a longstanding fashion style with a functional piece of furniture. The Puffa jacket has been a staple of fashion since being introduced in the early 1990s. It has evolved and changed over the years, but it is still a prominent style seen and worn by almost all of society.

Puffa jackets are known for their extreme insulation, overall coziness and comfort so we have translated that feeling into a piece of furniture that could be experienced and used for multiple applications and that could be adapted to its environment. Puffa is a place that evokes feelings from childhood of comfort, tranquillity and is intended to provide safe breathing space away from noise and stress of modern life, or the place you use to contemplate over your best ideas away from the scrutiny of others in the office, or a sanctuary to rest at your hotel after a long flight . Its generous proportions  envelope its users encouraging them to explore its organic curves and coziness.

Experience it first
