Frövi | Meet our Designers

At Frövi we pride ourselves on creating forward thinking-innovative products. This is why we have our own in-house designers that consistently exceed convention and deliver new concepts that create ripples in the industry. Based in Oxfordshire our two designers; David and Matthew produce increasingly impressive concepts, with a key attention to detail.

They create every design in a passionate transition from thought to concept using traditional drawing methods and 3D computer aided design. The initial design is then quickly followed by prototyping and development, then the first public designs make their way to our showroom for one of our two main launch events – Clerkenwell Design Week, and our annual catalogue release.  The process however, never truly ends as the team consistently question how our existing designs can be improved upon - as you will see in Frövi 11…

Frövi | Meet our Designers : David King

David King

David King is Frövi’s R&D Design Manager based in Buckinghamshire, with a degree in Product Design and Marketing, and over 10 years’ experience within the furniture design industry. David’s designs evolve from traditional craftsmanship and resonate modern manufacturing techniques. Grounded through thier function, his design philosophy is clear, to inspire interaction and re-shape the environment that we work.

1.       Briefly describe what you do at work.

My Job is to inspire creativity, develop and motivate my team, and deliver well thought out, on-trend furniture designs and concepts for the Frövi Brand.

2.       What does your workspace look like?

Simple, clean, surrounded by nice objects and finishes.

3.       If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

Learn another Language, most likely Italian, because it is a place that I love to visit and explore.

4.       What inspires you?

I take inspiration from my surroundings, and experiences. Industrial Design and Architecture inspire my ideas and music helps me to ideate them on paper.

5.       You’re the new addition to the Frövi Ral colour range. What colour would you be and why?

I would be RAL6019, which is a beautiful soft green. Its relaxing and calming which can help improve our wellbeing within the work place.

Frövi | Meet our Designers: Matthew Coules

Matthew Coules

Matthew Coules is a Product Designer based in Oxfordshire with a background spanning from joinery to landscape architecture. From a young age Matthew has been intrigued by modern culture, style and design which reverberates through his own design ethos. This revolves around simplicity and rational thinking, with a strong emphasis on materials and the environment.

1.       Briefly describe what you do at work.

I work in Research & Development, imagining and designing new products for Frövi.

2.       What does your workspace look like?

Clean and tidy usually, depending on how close to Clerkenwell Design Week it is!

3.       If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I’ve always wanted to get a motorbike licence and just go out bombing it around in the countryside.

4.       What inspires you?

Lots of things and people! Architecture, Sneakers, Fashion Subcultures, George Lois, Tinker Hatfield, Bill Cunningham, Paul Smith - the list is endless to be honest.

5.       You’re the new addition to the Frövi RAL colour range. What colour would you be and why?

I’d probably be RAL 5024 which is a kind of muted blue, those who follow me on Instagram will know why...
